Meet ATP-Bio TAMU Leadership

Dr. Guillermo Aguilar

Professor Guillermo Aguilar held roles at UCI and UCR, later becoming Chair at UCR’s Mechanical Engineering Department. He then served as Department Head and Forsyth Professor at Texas A&M University. He’s a member of Mexico’s National Academy of Engineering and a respected AIMBE fellow. Boosting extensive research funding, he is renowned for his work in cryogen spray cooling, laser-tissue interactions, and biomedical optics. He boasts 100+ publications and mentors many students and postdocs.

 

 


Dr. Matthew Powell-Palm

Professor, Mechanical Engineering
Thrust Area 2 Co-PI

Dr. Powell-Palm is a widely recognized expert in low-temperature aqueous thermodynamics, working to develop new biopreservation approaches based on novel thermodynamic configurations. His work in isochoric supercooling, freezing, and vitrification has led to translational efforts in several industries, and he is working to drive subzero metastable preservation modalities to the clinic. Dr. Powell-Palm takes pride in advising students at the high school to PhD level, being an active member of the Society for Cryobiology, and teaching undergrad design courses at Texas A&M.

As Co-Director of TAMU’s Integrated Metabolomics Analysis Core, Dr. Jayaraman uses state-of-the-art mass spectrometers that are coupled to liquid chromatography (LC) or gas chromatography (GC) separation systems for analysis of metabolites. Determination of the metabolome, along with the microbiome, can show how changes in the microbial taxa, pro-inflammatory signaling and metabolites may reflect compromised gut barrier function and pro-inflammatory state and how these affect aging, infection, cancer, and immunology.
